Welcome Maja Hoang!

We are excited to announce that Maja Radisic Hoang will be with us for the next 16 months as a laboratory assistant, supporting mineral processing at SSW for her 4th year science internship placement.

Maja works alongside research scientists Baian Almusned and Carolyn Hill-Svehla to support sample preparation and materials characterization of geological samples for the mining industry. Through these processes, Maja utilizes various instruments at SSW, such as optical microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy combined with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM/EDX), Raman spectroscopy, Dynamic Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (D-SIMS), and micro-computed tomography (micro-CT).

Currently pursuing an Honours Specialization in Integrated Science with Environmental Science, Maja’s interdisciplinary research and industrial projects at SSW allow her to explore a variety of interests. For instance, she will be continuing the micro-CT project that previous intern Steven Li had been progressing. The goal of this project is to develop a routing procedure to identify mineral phases in ore samples using micro-CT, which visualizes density differences in samples through grayscale imaging.

Maja looks forward to exploring further ongoing environmental-based research studies at SSW during her 16-month internship and is excited to continue learning and advancing her skills as a researcher.
